The moral powers are equally well characterised. They are certain conditions'of the mind, usually denominated the moral affections, feelings, or faculties. They manifest themselves in various degrees of intensity, under the forms of desire and aversion, hope and fear, joy and sorrow, and in the active movements of the Will and the conscience. They are the Source of our mental sensibilities and sympa thies, and on them depend our mental happiness and mis ery. They are the chief determining motives of our ao tions; and hencethey constitute the most important part of our mental being.
