She was the daughter of a deep-drinking, hard-hitting sergeant in my old troop of Prince Rupert's Horse, and had married, as I had heard at the time, an inn-keeper named Killigrew. This tavern had been his, and, since a benign Providence and a tertiary fever had carried him off, fair Mistress Kitty was now sole owner of the Grenville Arm9.
