Lamarck nel 1801 manifestò la stessa opinione, che fecondo nel 1809 nella sua Filosofia zoologica e le die de una forma definitiva nel 1815 nella sua Storia na turale degli animali invertebrati. Secondo Lamarck l'e voluzione delle specie è semplicemente il risultato degli sforzi compiuti dall'individuo per adattarsi all'ambiente, che crea l'organo correlativo e con esso l'intero organismo.
