Excerpt from Nancy the Joyous
In his contemplative fashion, John Carter feasted on the sight of Nancy Lynn perched high on the arm of an old-fashioned mahogany sofa in order to catch the waning daylight on the book she was reading aloud. He was seated at the other end of the sofa listening dividedly. Mostly he was wondering how he had ever won the love of such a girl, or was planning ahead for the days that would give her to him. Meanwhile, Nancy read blithely on, tilting the sentences up at the end in a cheerful fashion of her own.
