Current knowledge of all aspects of the aging brain have been brought together to give a readable and accessible account of techniques which may be used to maintain the quality of life in the normal aged and the rehabilitation of those in whom the brain is damaged. The structural and neuropsychological changes which take place in the aging nervous system in health and disease are described and there is extensive referencing to reviews and key papers throughout the chapters. Particular emphasis is given to the relationship between aging and dementia and to the problems of diagnosing and prescribing therapies to neurological and psychiatric patients, mostly due to their individualistic nature. Cultural and medico-social aspects are also considered in relation to the other chapters.
