Early Prediction and Prevention of Child Abuse Edited by Kevin Browne, University of Leicester, Cliff Davies, University of Manchester and Peter Stratton, University of Leeds It is generally considered that prevention is better than cure-- this book will investigate how far it is possible to say whether a mother or a father is likely to abuse or neglect their child, and which children are most at risk. If accurate prediction is possible during pregnancy and infancy, then immediate action needs to be taken with a high certainty of useful outcome. The book also considers the types of intervention and treatment that are necessary to prevent child abuse--thus the book is divided into three sections: prevalence and prediction; identification and prevention; and intervention and treatment for child abuse in the family context. The book concludes with a discussion on the psychological context of child maltreatment and how its understanding will help the prediction and prevention of child abuse and neglect. This important and timely book will be essential reading for both clinical psychologists and community, health and educational professionals such as general practitioners, health visitors, social workers and teachers.
Biografía del autor
About the editors-- Kevin Browne is a lecturer in the Psychology Department at the University of Leicester and is Convenor of Leicester University's Family Violence Research Group. Cliff Davies is a lecturer in the Psychology Department of the University of Manchester--he has carried out a great deal of collaborative research work with the NSPCC. Peter Stratton is a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Leeds and is also the Director of the Leeds Family Therapy and Research Centre.
