All organisms show adaptive changes in their responses to variation in internal and external milieu. Learning includes several forms of behavioural changes. Biophysical, molecular and genetic bases for learning are being elucidated in simpler systems. Due to the rapid process in these and allied fields in recent years a new synthesis is called for and an attempt should be made to look for cellular and molecular rules common to all forms of learning.
