Medicinal chemistry is the branch of chemistry that relates to the discovery, design and development of therapeutic chemical agents, or drugs, for use in clinical and veterinary medicine. It deals with the relationship between chemical structure and biological activity. The chemical concepts of this field has permeated fields of biology, genetics, medicine, toxicology and pest control. Since the early 1980s, the pace of drug discovery has rapidly accelerated and many new methods are being used. Volume 2 is a survey of cholinergic drugs, cardiac drugs and chemotherapeutics.
