9780471158820: CORBA Design Patterns

Inhaltsangabe

This text combines two trends in computer technology: CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and design patterns. It shows how to quickly build CORBA based applications using the technique called design patterns. It shows how real world designs are created, using a set of Interface Definition Languages created by the Object Management Group. The book begins with introductions to the essentials of CORBA and design patterns. It then takes the reader on to examining different types of design patterns and how they relate to each other. Further material demonstrates design patterns for particular CORBA services and facilities. Finally, this is all brought together by taking the reader through two case studies that demonstrate how to use the ideas presented in the book to create both legacy and Internet applications. The accompanying CD includes Interface Definition Language software for all available CORBA-based services and facilities, all source code examples contained in the book and many sample implementations.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

THOMAS J. MOWBRAY is the architect of one of the first CORBA-based applications systems. He is the principal scientist at Mitre Corporation and an architecture columnist for Object Magazine. Harness the power of design patterns to build CORBA–based applications

CORBA Design Patterns provides detailed guidance in the construction of distributed applications based on OMG′s CORBA. Founded on a philosophy of designing for change, the design patterns provide essential, proven guidance in lowering the risk of developing software in a distributed environment. The authors introduce you to the essential principles of CORBA and design patterns. They provide a framework for design patterns in software design and show examples for designing OMG IDL interfaces and integrating legacy and Internet applications.

On the CD–ROM you′ll find:
∗ IDL for all available CORBA and CORBA services
∗ All the source code examples from the book
∗ Animated demonstrations

You′ll get:
∗ Clear, step–by–step guidance on how to architect real–world designs using the OMG interface definition language (IDL)
∗ A complete design pattern catalog offering expert solutions for designing and building distributed object–oriented systems
∗ Step–by–step examples that demonstrate how to use all the techniques described to build both legacy and Internet applications
