Originally published in 1929 this is a new edition with a new foreword by the author. "The author spent many years among the Scots fishermen and so has first-hand experience of their lives, both ashore and afloat. He writes about the history and methods of fishing used in eastern Scotland, the various kinds of fishing boat, the local customs and superstitions which prevailed well into this century, and describes in detail every fishing centre between Berwick-on-Tweed and the Pentland Firth. The author's drawings are a valuable record of Scottish fishing craft from the primitive Fair Isle skiff to the Aberdeen steam trawler. All but a very few have disappeared".
