The oil fields of Bakersfield, key railroad links in Wyoming, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, are all targets of militia sabotage. Freeman launches the 82nd Airborne in a headlong attack on militia forces gathered near Mount St. Helens. At the mouth of the Columbia River on the Washington-Oregon Border, the two armies fight a climactic battle for the four-mile-long Astoria bridge.
