The fiercest quarrel Erasmus became entangled in was with Jacques Lefèvre d'Etaples. This centred on a disagreement about the interpretation of Psalm 8, 6, on the relation between man or Christ and the angels. This third volume of the Amsterdam edition of the apologias contains the critical edition of the Latin text of the apologia against Lefèvre d'Etaples. The volume contains an introduction in English and a commentary including an identification of sources quoted, and linguistic, philological, theological and historical background to the Latin text.
