This aims to be a comprehensive textbook of surgery intended for the trainee studying for postgraduate qualifications (FRCS). It should also serve as an excellent reference for the qualified surgeon. Based on Aird's book: "Companion to Surgical Studies" (2E, 1957), the present volume has been totally rewritten and updated to reflect the science and practice of surgery in the 1990s. Aird's style of direct and simple writing has been retained with the intention that the text will be regarded as a "companion" in its truest sense. It's content is highly relevant to the FRCS examination and it covers all aspects of general surgery plus subspecialties. There are references abbreviated at end of each section.
