The applications of these formulae are fully explained by the aid of numerous numerical examples. The text is further supplemented by a large number of illustrations, representing in detail machines which have been actually constructed. It is hoped that the tabular matter and descriptions of these machines will serve to increase the critical knowledge of the reader.
