Excerpt from Tables of Expected Genetic Progress in Each of Two Traits
Many problems in both animal and plant breeding are involved with the estimation of expected genetic gain from the selection practiced. Numerous investigators have reported on the effectiveness of selection in changing the mean of a population. Many of these reports have been concerned With the change brought about in only one trait, even though the selection actually practiced was for several traits. In these cases, the expected genetic progress has often been found not to agree with the actual progress achieved. The question arises, therefore, concerning the methods employed in estimating the expected genetic gain.
