About the book >.>.> Medieval Philosophy, the third volume of the Routledge History of Philosophy series by John Marenbon, focuses on the rich traditions of philosophy developed during the Middle Ages. This period, extending from the ninth century until the early seventeenth century in the Latin West, includes significant contributions from Arab, Jewish, and Latin thinkers. The volume begins with Boethius, a pivotal figure of late antiquity whose influence permeated the medieval Latin West. It presents a broad spectrum of philosophers, such as Avicenna, Averroes, Maimonides, Abelard, Aquinas, and Aureoli, while exploring various strands of medieval logic and the cultural contexts in which this philosophy flourished within both Islamic and Christian thought. This work provides fresh perspectives on a complex and dynamic area of research, where Arab and Jewish philosophies are examined in their own right, rather than merely as precursors to Latin thinkers. The text conveys the nuances of medieval philosophical traditions, detailing their distinct contributions and interrelations. Key subjects include the works and ideas of notable figures such as Anselm of Canterbury, Henry of Ghent, Duns Scotus, Ockham, and others, alongside discussions of influential movements and schools of thought, including the German Dominicans and the Twelfth Century renaissance in philosophical inquiry.Contributors to this volume include prominent scholars such as Stephen Brown, Brian Davies, and Robert Grosseteste, among others, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of medieval philosophy. Medieval Philosophy serves as a substantive resource for understanding the complexities of medieval thought and its lasting impact on the development of Western philosophy. (SP). Artikel-Nr.
