There is a tremendous amount of material in here of direct relevance to anyone teaching biology... help[s] to undermine the notion, still widely held, that science only arose at the Renaissance and is the perogative of Western Europe.... contains a wealth of detail... Particularly valuable are the several chapters on optics... I can't resist mentioning too some of what is written about hospitals....
