Leigh served three years as advisor or co-advisor of his local Romance Writers of America chapter before spending four years on the national Board of Directors. A popular speaker, Leigh had spoken at more than a dozen romance and multi-genre conferences from Boston to California and from Texas to Chicago. Before turning to a career in writing, Leigh earned a BA and an MA in Voice and Musicology from the University of North Carolina. He taught music in schools and churches for thirty-two years before retiring in 1993 to write full time.
