Excerpt from Proceedings of the Symposium on Management of Forest and Range Habitats for Nongame Birds <br/><br/>One measure of the importance of any resource is its economic value; another is the number of people who use that resource. The enjoyment of non-game birds is generally agreed to be an increasingly important recreational activity, perhaps rivaling hunting or fishing in economic importance or numbers of partici pants. But estimates of economic values and numbers of participants are difficult to make and are scarce. Forest, range, and other land managers need better estimates of these values to help them decide how much effort to devote to management of non-game birds.
