Excerpt from H. R. 5000, Recyclable Materials, Plastics in the Environment<br/><br/>The series of studies mandated by hr. 5000 will provide a broad er understanding of our waste stream and the impact of recycling and degradability in a number of areas, including national security and the Office of Recycling Research and Information. I strongly endorse this bill and this concept that recycling and degradability should both be a part of the solution. In summary, Mr. Chairman, degradability is one of the solutions which I believe must be pursued in response to our nation's prob lem with solid waste. It offers the promise of progress in all these areas. I realize that this is an issue which will not be resolved or even properly discussed within a few weeks or months, however I look forward to the debate on degradability and the other potential solutions in our solid waste problems.
