AN extract from the following pages, in the form of a Report, drawn up at the request Of the Committee of the Evangelical Alliance, was read at the General Conference at Basel, September 5, 1879. The whole appeared first in the second volume of the De richte uber die Versammlungen der evang. Allianz im September pp. 665 - 828 (the English edition will give but a very short abstract of some twenty pages), and afterwards in the Allgemeine missions-zeitschrift (gutersloh, Bertelsmann), NO vember and December 1879. The present separate edition, which is being translated into French and Dutch, was undertaken at the request of many friends from abroad interested in the cause of mis sions, and is now presented in a form revised and, in some places, supplemented and enlarged.
