Excerpt from Forestry Work
MY reason for attempting to write of forestry work is that I feel there is need for a comparatively low-priced book giving a brief outline of the principles of sylviculture, and describing in more detail and in simple language the actual work, and the methods of arriving at certain facts and figures, which might serve as a stepping-stone to larger and more expensive works. Many young lads, when first entering the woods, cannot afford to buy expensive books, and are thus at a loss to know the proper way to do certain work, and the reason why it is done in certain ways. This small work may help to explain many of these things. It may also prove useful to older and more experienced men as a reference book, through the collection of tables at the end.
