There is nothing which I have more fcrupuloully obferved, than to render juf'rice to thofe writers, to whom I am beholden for any materials for I look upon the character of a plagiary as utterly contemptible; but though I cannot charge myfelf with the leali wilful fuppreflion, yet, as my reading is confined within. Very narrow limits, I dare not affirm, that none of my remarks have been already made by others: {hould any of them, however, appear to be anticipated, I lhall rather derive fatisfaciion from the difcovery, than be'furprized, or uneafy at it; time at the fame time that it juttifies my humble endeavours, it fecures me from the imputation of fingularity in the attempt, and firongly con firms the necefiity of it.
