Gr. 8-11. Fluffy romance fans will be delighted by this first title in the Diary of a Crush trilogy highlighting the misadventures of 16-year-old Edie, a precocious English schoolgirl who falls for older art student Dylan. Dylan is drop-dead gorgeous, moody, and well known as a player who breaks girls' hearts. Against the odds (Dylan's past and present girlfriends, Edie's new boyfriend), Dylan and Edie are drawn together, and they steal secret kisses whenever possible. But Dylan has serious commitment issues and refuses to go public. Will their photography class' five-day jaunt to romantic Paris inspire Dylan to state his intentions? Don't look for much depth or character development in this quick, highly digestible, junior chick-lit read. Do expect girls to gobble it down and ask for more. There's lots of French kissing, and a little groping, but confirmed abstinence wins out. Debbie Carton
