Zustand: very good. Farnborough: Saxon House, [1974]. Hardcover. Dustjacket. x, 262pp. plates; genealogical table, portraits. 23 cm. - Seven Generations of French Executioners. For more than two centuries generations of the Sanson family were the official executioners of France. For them there was no other way of life. Shunned by all, each Sanson was forced to burn, torture and kill rogues, vagabonds and sometimes the innocent. The family fortune reached its terrible climax during the French Revolution when Louis XVI himself died on the guillotine he had helped design. Some Sansons sought solace for their macabre tasks in nursing the sick; others turned to debauchery and drink. Condition : very good copy. ISBN 9780347000284. Keywords : RECHT, history of law.
