Switched reluctance (SR) motors have steadily increased in commercial importance since their introduction in the early 1980s, while their technology - especially of their electronic control - has made great progress. This text introduces and explains the techniques for controlling SR machines, starting with the basic fundamentals and building up to the most advanced forms of sensorless control. The authors have included changes in electronic control and focus on aspects of motion control, automation and energy efficiency. A section on applications with case studies is also included. The book aims to go beyond the introductory level of general AC electric motor drives, and to therefore be of use to both professional engineers and researchers evaluating or developing controls for these machines.
