David Melling has received recognition for his artistic talent. His book 'Brilliant the Dinosaur' (Pavilion) was shortlisted for the 1994 Smarties Book Prize and 'What's that Noise' was longlisted for the 1997 Kate Greenaway Award

The author: Mike Haines is a familar figure in the book trade, best-known for his design, paper-engineering and production talents. He was born and raised in Nottingham, an only child of an artistic father and mother - poor but happy. He left Nottingham to go to Art school in London, then joined a retail group which is now 'Books etc', becoming buyer for the group and learning the business of 'books'. He joined Penguin as a Special Sales Director, then left to form his own business. He loves gardening, walking, cycling, the theatre, movies and books.
