Themes, Issues, and Debates in Psychology - Softcover

This book uses an original approach, introducing students to areas of psychological theory and research, then encouraging them to cross-reference topics and study possible interrelationships. Each chapter includes a summary and suggestions for additional reading, and diagrams and photos make issues easier to follow and understand. It is aimed at AS and A Level psychology students, undergraduates and those on other courses with a psychology component.

This is a book for A Level and first-year undergraduates of Psychology, which aims to broaden the scope of the coverage of topics/topic areas which are already on the existing syllabuses. Currently, the subject is divided up into "topics" under broad headings like "Developmental", "Cognitive" , "Comparative" and "Abnormal". This means at an introductory level, students may perceive these subjects as distinct and independent. The author's approach is from a theme/issue point of view, making connections across and between topics enabling students to see the interrelationships. For example, instead of covering "Attribution theories" in relation to "Interpersonal perception", there is a chapter devoted to attribution which looks at a number of topic areas to which attribution principles have been applied, including interpersonal perception but also theories of emotion, attitude change, bystander/intervention behaviour, aggression and material relationships. Subjects like women in psychology/the psychology of women and black psychology are also covered.
