Throughout the text, emphasis is placed on function rather then mechanism, that is, what neurophysiological systems do rather than how they do it. Using this approach the author gives an understanding of whole systems and their interactions. The text has been thoroughly revised and has increased coverage of molecular neurobiology and a more extensive use of supplementary notes. Also included is a free PC-based Neurolab disc which the reader can use to try out experiments and demonstrations themselves. This illustrates important points in the text which are indicated by a computer icon.
