The trade unions' abuse of their power in 1979 was the main reason for the election of the Thatcher government. In Part 1 Hanson analyses the process of employment reform 1980-1990 showing how effective it has been in changing trade union behaviour, and improving productivity in certain sectors of the economy. The reforms have also helped to create the possibility of much better customer service, quality and productivity and in Part 2 specific recommendations are made for achieving these desirable aims.
