This third edition aims to reflect the concern about the environment which has led to intensified scientific research, national legislation and the establishment of many new institutions at national and international levels. It also records the major "incidents" at Chernobyl and Bhopal. The work has been completely revised and contains many new entries with a system of cross-referencing between entries. New entries include legislation, radiation protection, the greenhouse effect and the ozone layer.
