This is the second of a two-volume set of essays by distinguished economists, initiated by the "Banca Nazionale del Lavoro Quarterly Review", in which they offer recollections and reminiscences of their research work. The authors are linked by a common theme - they have all had extensive involvement in government and business. The essays cover a wide range of subjects including the "European" nature of economics during the 1930s, the Viennese intellectual ferment of economic ideas, long-term economic development, applied economics, labour economics, particularly as applied to government and business advising, the training of economists, microeconomics and the economic analysis of government and institutions.
