In the present volume several hitherto unpublished Poems have been added, whilst, in the case of those pre viously printed, many important omissions and errors have been corrected. The task of compilation and arrange ment has devolved upon the representative of the late Rev. Thom as Whytehead's executor, whose aim has been, as far as possible, to allow the Letters to tell their own story, with merely suficient comment to maintain the thread of the narrative of his brief life.
