Excerpt from Ten Generations of Corn Breeding

In 1896 the Illinois Experiment Station began the improvement of corn by varying the composition of the grain through selection and breeding. The results of the first two years of these investigations were published in Bulletin No. 55 Improvement in the Chemical Composition of the Corn Kernel. This same work has been carried on continuously since that time, and although several publica tions have been issued in the meantime bearing upon different phases of the subject of corn improvement as it has been developed, including Bulletins 82, 87, 100, and 119, there has, however, been no complete report published of the results obtained in the progress of this original line of work described in Bulletin No. 55.
