On May 15, 1891, I operated, Dr. F. J. Brockway as sisting, on a dog weighing beforehand kilos pounds avoirdupois). Three hundred cubic centimetres of blood were taken from the right common carotid. Thereafter his pulse could only be felt in the femoral. Then, with an ordinary hypodermatic needle inserted into the femoral artery, we injected the same amount of warm, normal salt-solution, using the technique just described.
