The sources from which this book has been drawn might have yielded a far larger volume; and under another hand a different book might well have come into being. Those sources are chiefly the five large scrap-books in which successive secretaries have pre served the memorabilia of the Club; the annual reports of one secretary after another; the memoirs of former members, now for many years read at the annual meet ings; the reminiscences, written and spoken, of older members of the Club; and, in particular, the recollec tions of Francis S. Watson and of others solicited by him about twenty years ago when he foresaw the day when some such book as this would be wanted.
