Because alarge proportion of the milk for the St. Louis market is produced on the Illinois side of the Mississippi river, and because economical transportation is a matter of high importance to the farm ers in this area, the University of Illinois was asked to study the problem and suggest what could be done to bring about more efficient transportation in the area. The analysis made should be useful in other Illinois milk-producing areas also, since many of the problems of these areas are similar.
