In the curriculum of medical study, the department of the practice of medicine is most difficult. The reasons are two fold: First, it is instruction without such means of illustration as appeal to the senses - descriptions of phenomena, which the student has not witnessed, and which, not unfrequently, he is illy prepared to understand. Secondly, the impression that the practice of medicine is almost wholly empirical, stands in the way of that careful study of therapeutics based upon path~ ology, which gives a rational practice of medicine.
