Excerpt from Syllabus Topics in American History: For Seventh and Eighth Grades, With Required Outline Maps and Regents Questions
Scope. This book gives the topical outline and the map work required in American History for the seventh and eighth grades as given in the New York State Syllabus for 1910 - 1915.
Regents Examinations. The examinations in history under the new Syllabus are reprinted in this book. Future editions will contain these up to the date of publication.
Topics. History should be taught topically. The essential topics are given in the Syllabus. It is well worth while to have these topics in print in the hands of each pupil. This makes it easy to teach history topically and leads pupils to use reference books to supplement their textbooks. It teaches pupils to use books in an intelligent way.
Maps. The Syllabus strongly advises the use of outline maps. Carefully filling in the outline maps in this book will greatly help to fix history in the minds of the pupils by making the work graphic. Many facts will thus be fixed which otherwise would soon be forgotten.
