It is for this reason that I have undertaken to write an account Of Galicia, her F orbears and her Offspring; for she herself sprang from the'most aristocratic of parents, and her children include, besides a Derby Winner, one who, notwithstanding that he missed that unique distinction, was beyond doubt the best horse in the Derby of his year; for I am of course speaking of Bayardo, who subsequently showed with the most unmistak able distinctness what ought to have happened at Epsom, where the result Of the classic was affected by an accident, to be described in its proper place.
