Excerpt from Annual Report of the State Engineer and Surveyor of the State of New-York, on Railroad Statistics: Made to the Legislature, on the 7th January, 1851
Most of the information required to be given by the law, is such as, from the nature of the case, must be known and recorded by each company, if they keep any reliable accounts at all, and the cost and trouble of collating and arranging must be the only cause which any company can assign for not making the reports as the law requires. The fact that so many companies have reported as required, is sum cient evidence that the law can be complied with.
