Che difiiculties, which even the more intelligent students of the German Language invariably met with, in the translation of the highly useful 13e cises of dr. Noehden, suggested to me first the probable utility of a book like the present. It cannot, indeed, be considered otherwise, thana desideratum, particularly to all those, who, from their' local situation, may be [deprived Of the ad vantage of a master. This would not have been so much the case, if Circumstances had allowed dr.' 'noehden to annex a German and English Vocabulary to the Exercises, in the way he inten ded, according to the first project of that work. Not to dwell any farther on the expediency of publishing a Key of this description, I will only add, that it has been undertaken with the full approbation of the original author ofathe Exercises.
