As to the first: they only examined the books as to points which arose in pursuing inquiries arismg under one of the other heads, for the reason that to enter into a sufficiently minute examination of the whole multitude of the books of the Company, to arrive at any definite results, would have required more time than the Co mmittee had to devote to the entire investigation.
