The commercial series of modern language handbooks is the first of its kind, and has been designed and written with a view to aiding the maintenance and development of British commerce in foreign markets. The series is intended for the use of commercial students and traders. It deals with the French, German, and Spanish languages as they are applied in actual commerce, and practically the whole of the matter contained in the books is drawn from real business, the series of letters and the documents having been used in actual foreign trade transactions. The books are the result (a) of much educational experience in connection with a scheme Of commercial education on the one hand, and, on the other hand, (6) of eighteen years of practical experience in connection with several large shipping houses both at home and abroad. Every endeavour has been made throughout to present the matter in such a manner that its influence may be thoroughly educational, if regarded as a mental training of a specialist type.
