American social customs are not universal, and there is a need for this kind of book. Among Chinese greet the oldest person first; in India do not hug someone of the opposite sex; in Malaysia do not show the soles of your feet. And it is best almost everywhere to avoid discussing local politics. In a refreshing display of honesty, the authors admit to not having set foot in half of the countries covered.
