In 1839, La Amistad, a Spanish slave ship, set sail for the United States. The slaves on board rebelled against their captors. This movie follows the trial of Cinque (Djimon Hounsou), the slave who led the revolt.

An imprisoned slave is given a Bible containing pictures of the life of Christ, and by looking at them, he begins to see that Jesus changed everything. He pieces together the story of Christ, sharing what he understands with a fellow slave, and the two of them are able to find hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.

Where to take it

* If you were one of the prisoners, would you have had hope after learning the message of Jesus?

* What more could the church have done for the slave than just give him a Bible? What can you do to help people understand more about Jesus and his message of salvation?

* Does the slave believe God will break the chains that bind him? Does he believe he will be cleared of all charges? What is the specific hope he has?

* What are some hopes you have? What are the hopes you can have when you know Christ?

* Have you ever completely given up hope? Were you able to find it again? How?

* How does hope help us get through difficult times?

* The Bible is a powerful book with a message of hope. What other books have given you hope?

Eleven-year-old Roger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a sensitive foster child with two wishes: that he will someday live with a family that loves him, and that his baseball team, the Angels, will win the championship. A group of angels led by Al (Christopher Lloyd) appear to Roger and his teammates, and things begin looking up when Roger relays Al's baseball tips to their manager, George Knox (Danny Glover).

George holds a press conference to respond to reports that he's using angels to help his team win. He's ready to dismiss the rumors as nonsense, but when the kids come into the room he decides to tell the crowd what he believes-that the angels and miracles are real. He says that there are times in life when something stronger, higher, maybe even spiritual, happens in athletics. They can call it whatever they like, but something has changed the way the kids are playing ball.
