Inhaltsangabe

Genetically engineered crops accounted for about 85% of soybean, corn, and cotton acreage in the US in 2009. This report draws on peer- reviewed literature to investigate the environmental, economic, and social impacts of genetically engineered (GE) crops. Focusing on scientific questions rather than ideological positions, the report analyzes how GE crops have affected US farmers, both adopters and non-adopters of the technology, in regard to farmers' incomes, agronomic practices, production decisions, environmental resources, and personal well-being. The report concludes that improvement in water quality on agricultural lands is the primary benefit of GE crops and recommends an infrastructure to track and analyze these beneficial effects. The audience for the book includes farmers, industry, science organizations, and policy makers. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
