The North Pacific Research Board is a custodian to a portion of the revenue generated by the Environmental Improvement and Restoration Fund. In an effort to increase the value of their research on the north Pacific Ocean, the Bering Sea and the Arctic Ocean, the Board requested advice on how to develop a plan for disbursement from the Academy. This interim report includes information about the Board's current structure and procedures, its responsibilities in developing the plan, and the characteristics of the geography to be studies. The report gives the criteria for a successful plan, suggests research themes such as ecosystems states and variability, human-induced impacts, economic, social and management research, forecasting and responding to change.
