Not a guide to the journey between lifetimes, but a collection of 11 papers from a November 1995 workshop in which researchers from different disciplines pool their knowledge and ideas about how changes in infant and child mortality affect reproductive outcomes for the community as a whole, not the children themselves especially in developing countries. Among the perspectives are a cross-national analysis of the effect of a child's death on birth spacing, evidence from Tanzania on the impact of AIDS mortality on individual fertility, some historical and contemporary evidence for the US, and aggregated and multilevel evidence from Costa Rica. The workshop was conducted by the Committee of Population of the National Research Council. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
