A notable pioneer of "New Journalism", Didion's journalistic work has focused greatly on social and cultural issues of the time, from her groundbreaking "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" which focused on the counterculture hippie movement of the 1960's to "Salvador" which detailed the heavy American involvement in the 12-year- long Salvadoran Civil War. "We Tell Ourselves Stories in Order to Live" is a collection of non-fiction works by Didion. From the introduction written by John Leonard to the works themselves, "We Tell Ourselves Stories." has been highly praised as beautiful collection of some of Didion's most powerful works including; "Slouching Towards Bethlehem", "Salvador", and "After Henry" among others. 1388404.
